The Samsung star frenzy had churned up the touchscreen phone market six months ago. Samsung meant some very serious business with the launch of the Star 3G S5603 competing with the market leader LG Cookie.
With excellent features such as a large 2.8 inch QVGA touchscreen with a resolution of 240×320 and Samsung’s TouchWiz UI which is one of the best UI’s available in this segment along with video recording capability, an MP3 music player, and Stereo FM radio. The Star S5603 is a 3G enabled phone with full Internet browsing support. Features like Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, GPRS/EDGE and USB 2.0 port add on to the package. It comes with 80MB internal memory and also supports 8GB MicroSD card which is housed beneath the battery pack.
The 3.0 megapixel camera with LED flash and smile detection can shoot 9 consecutive shots with a single click. The battery doesn’t pack much of a punch but it is expected to give the phone about 8 hours of talk time. Unlike the LG Cookie, the Star is smaller, lighter and extremely comfortable to hold. Another feature of Star 3G is its touchscreen and widgets which can be dragged and dropped anywhere on the screen. The keypad is a standard one not the QWERTY keyboard used in the Star S5230.
At Rs 11,000; the Star 3G is a cute, colorful, light, budget touchscreen phone with loads of features and the one that is taking up a big chunk of the touchscreen phone market.
