UMID M1 mbook

April 28, 2009

According to the latest updates, a Korean manufacturer has launched a UMID named, Mbook. The UMID M1 mbook jumps aboard the netbook bandwagon, where the device ships in a relatively neat package that offers out-of-the-box Internet connectivity, as long as you have a decent Wi-Fi connection nearby.

This tiny device shouldn’t really be able to function as a decent workstation but meant for casual surfing, since the 4.8″ display is really too small to be of practical use, while the keyboard will introduce your fingers to cramps much faster. The Korean manufacturer for this UMID also claims that for connectivity, it is compatible with HSDPA, Bluetooth 2.0 and WiBro – a WiMax-like wireless broadband internet technology. Among other specifications, UMID sports four-in-one memory card slot, a mini USB 2.0 port, a QWERTY keyboard and has a battery life of around six hours.

Viliv S7 Takes On the Sony Vaio P With a Tablet Twist

January 11, 2009

Specs for Viliv’s S7 UMPC/netbook/tablet/whatever have popped up, and while the gadget’s guts are similar to other netbooks, the physical design— including a jumbo keyboard and battery and a swiveling touchscreen— sets it apart.

The S7’s 1024×600 screen is only 7 inches, but the sides are stretched out to a nearly Sony Vaio P-esque length:width ratio to make room for a usable keyboard and a very substantial battery. The screen itself is a swiveling touchscreen, like a traditional tablet, and Viliv brags that the battery can last a whopping 7 hours of video playback. Besides that, it’s got the standard netbook guts: Atom proc up to 1.86 GHz, 1 GB of memory, 60 GB HDD/16 GB SSD, and Windows XP. Price and release date are still unknown, but it’ll probably hit Korea before making its way west.
