Icron Extreme USB
December 14, 2008
How long is your USB cable? The USB standard says that it should be no longer than five feet long, but the ExtremeUSB setup from Icron is able to reach a phenomenal 25 miles in length. Now that’s pretty lengthy by any means, imagine working from home using this setup while remaining connected to the computer at your office! The whole idea of this would be for governments to run secure connections to distant cameras, and the setup doesn’t really use USB. Instead, you will need to purchase plenty of boxes that will convert the USB signal to or from a proprietary signal, sending it over the wire/air/powerline. There is no word on pricing, but it ought to arrive at OEMs’ doorsteps sometime early next year.
Store in your Guitar- Camp Rock Guitar Themed USB Drives
November 3, 2008
The Guitar usb drive is a nicely designed (or rather uniquely) pen drive with up to 8gig storage capacity. Wondering where the USB connector is? Well, the arm of the guitar snaps off to reveal a USB connector attached to the body of the guitar. It’s also available in decent size capacities - You can snatch up the 8GB version for $32.99 or the 4GB for the same price - strangely enough. A 2GB version is available for just $9.99.
USB made from recycled material
September 22, 2008

A month ago Earthdrive’s eco-friendly usb drive claimed to be the world’s first completely green drive. Well looks like it’s about to get a little competition with this new usb drive. The new drive is made out of recycled newspapers. Yes it is excessively bland looking and if you lay it on a wood desk with similar coloring it will blend in easily with its surroundings making it harder to spot. There’s just not a whole lot about the drive that makes it stand out. Yet, it is made out of recycled materials which will likely draw in the more environmentally conscious.
The drive doesn’t have a lot of perks to it. Stacked against the EarthDrive, the EarthDrive is made from bio-recycled plastics so they are even there. Yet EarthDrive takes it farther and is also a recyclable drive and when you purchase one a portion of the proceeds go to American Forests. In all fairness though, I don’t know many people that would go out of their way to recycle a tiny USB drive. This new drive does come in 16GB, so it does come a bit larger than the EarthDrive. Sadly there is no word on pricing yet, so there is no way to know if this drive is going to cost a fortune or not.
